Why?

I used to hear this quote all the time when I was younger, whether it was from my parents, my grandparents, neighbours, family friends, tv shows. Honestly, it was everywhere I went, but I never truly believed it or understood what it actually meant.

These past 4 years have been the hardest I've ever known, completely draining my happiness, my energy and my motivation.

I've been horrible at cleaning my room. I always spend 30 minutes just trying to get out of bed and clean but it doesn't ever actually happen, then I give up. Last weekend, at 2am, when I couldn't sleep (my new normal, sadly), I decided I would get up and clean my room. I put some up-beat music on, and got straight to work. I took out all of my dirty dishes, I cleaned everything off the floor and all surfaces, I put the dirty laundry in my hamper and finally made my bed.

After about 45 min (I sat down many times throughout the process, contemplating whether I should just give up), everything was done and it felt incredibly good. My thoughts were no longer racing and I could focus on one thing at a time.

Next time you are having trouble working in your space or can't fall asleep, try cleaning your room, it may very well help clear your mind.
